Paper creatures
These days I was working in some character design in a way I never did before. Although I had worked in some clay sculptures (a sample of them is in the last pic) I had never experimented how humble papercraft media can be. I hope you like them!
Rouge Process
Here you can see some backgrounds for "Rouge". I think it's the first time I show part of the sketch process in this blog. Black and white images are done with pencil and markers, final color images done in Photoshop.
La cabra i la burra
Well that's really old stuff like three years old. Those images belongs to a game book project that I developed with the very talented illustrator Carla Besora. The thing about this book is stimulate the brain and hands of old people while they create their own stories for kids. I worked in the backgrounds and art direction while Carla filled the places with those charismatic characters.

This illustration is done for the arrival of my old mate Lluis Danti after a long time working in Japan as animator.

Aquesta animació va ser feta per un projecte de classe, el tema era desenvolupar els títols de crèdit d'entrada per a la pel·lícula de David Lynch "The elephant man". La tècnica emprada és analògica fent servir cartolines retallades.

Bluebeard (江戸時代)
Here you can see some illustrations done for the illustrated book "Bluebeard". It's a French literary folktale written by Charles Perrault. The tale tells the story of a violent nobleman in the habit of murdering his wives and the attempts of one wife to avoid the fate of her predecessors.
The challenge in this project was present the same story written by Perrault in a different context the Edo period in Japan. Working hard with the visual narrative properties which belongs to this visual lenguage.
Aquí podeu veure algunes il·lustracions fetes per al llibre il·lustrat "Barbablava". Es tracta d'un conte popular francès escrit per Charles Perrault. El conte narra la historia d'un noble acostumat a matar a les seves dones i els esforços d'una d'aquestes per tal de tenir un destí diferent.
El repte en aquest projecte era plasmar la mateixa història escrita per Perrault en un context diferent, el del periode d'Edo al Japó, així com aprofundir en les capacitats narratives pròpies d'aquest llenguatge visual.
Aquí podéis ver algunas ilustraciones hechas para el libro ilustrado "Barbazul". Se trata de un cuento popular francés escrito por Charles Perrault. El cuento narra la historia de un noble acostumbrado a matar a sus mujeres y los esfuerzos de una de ellas para conseguir otro destino.
El reto de éste proyecto era plasmar la misma historia escrita por Perrault en un contexto distinto, el de el periodo de Edo en Japón, así como profundizar en las capacidades narrativas propias de ese lenguaje visual.

The contortionist
It was almost the end of 2010 when with some colleagues decided to do an Illustrated calendar for the upcoming year. This calendar would include twelve illustration, each one with a popular character suitable for the world of the early beginnings of the circus. So we saw "Freaks" which resulted really useful to understand this kind of creepy atmosphere.
My month was February and my character a contortionist who seems to be in a trouble. I must say that he's still in my workshop trying to walk as a biped again.
S'acabava 2010 i amb uns quants companys vam decidir fer un calendari il·lustrat per l'any que s'acostava. Aquest calendari inclouria dotze il·lustracions. Cadascuna amb un personatge propi del món dels inicis del circ. Així doncs vam veure "Freaks" fet que va resultar molt útil per comprendre aquell tipus d'atmòsfera fastigosa.
El meu mes era Febrer i el meu personatge un contorsionista amb certs problemes. He de dir que encara està al meu taller intentant caminar com un bípede altre vegada.
Se terminaba 2010 y con unos cuantos compañeros decidimos hacer un almanaque para el año que se acercaba. Éste incluiría doce ilustraciones. Cada una de ellas con un personaje propio del mundo de los inicios del circo. Entonces vimos "Freaks" lo que nos sería muy útil para comprender aquel tipo de atmósfera asquerosa.
Mi mes era Febrero y mi personaje un contorsionista con ciertos problemas. Debo decir que sigue en mi taller intentando andar como un bípedo de nuevo.
